The Seventh Regiment of Colored Troops was raised in Maryland in September of 1863. They saw action in Florida in the early Spring and were later moved to South Carolina. They again saw serious action as part of the Army of the Potomac at Bermuda Hundred. The Seventh Regiment was specifically cited by General Birney for their exemplary discipline and bearing.
